The Montrose City Council has recently implemented significant changes aimed at improving public engagement and city infrastructure.
Enhanced Public Comment Policy
In a move to foster better communication between residents and city officials, the Council has revised its public comment policy. Council members and staff are now permitted to respond directly to public comments during meetings. Mayor Michael Badagliacco emphasized that this change allows residents to pose questions on relevant items and receive immediate responses from knowledgeable staff members, thereby dispelling misconceptions and promoting transparency.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements
Addressing the city’s infrastructure needs, the Council has initiated critical improvements to the existing wastewater treatment plant. Originally commissioned in 1984 and expanded in 2009, the plant is operating within its hydraulic capacity. However, aging infrastructure and anticipated future nutrient limits under Colorado Regulation 85 have prompted proactive upgrades to ensure continued protection of public health and support for community growth.
City Manager Bill Bell highlighted the plant’s longstanding service to the community and the necessity of these improvements to meet future regulatory requirements and maintain efficient operations.
These developments reflect the Council’s commitment to enhancing civic engagement and investing in essential infrastructure to support Montrose’s ongoing development.
