Montrose City Council Approves 2026 Budget and Infrastructure Projects

The Montrose City Council has approved the city’s 2026 budget, totaling approximately $168.9 million. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s budget of nearly $112 million. The rise is primarily attributed to substantial infrastructure investments aimed at enhancing the city’s facilities and services.

Key Infrastructure Investments

A major component of the budget is the allocation of nearly $41 million for the construction of a new public works facility. This project is expected to modernize and expand the city’s capacity to maintain public infrastructure effectively. Additionally, $5 million has been earmarked for general major street improvement projects, and another $5 million is designated for the Rio Grande extension and roundabout project, aiming to improve traffic flow and safety in the area.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements

In line with the city’s commitment to upgrading essential services, Montrose has initiated critical improvements to its existing wastewater treatment plant. Originally commissioned in 1984 and expanded in 2009, the plant is undergoing enhancements to address aging infrastructure and to meet anticipated future nutrient limits under Colorado Regulation 85. These improvements are crucial for maintaining public health standards and supporting the community’s growth.

Community Engagement and Future Outlook

City officials have emphasized the importance of these investments in fostering a resilient and thriving community. The approved budget reflects a strategic approach to addressing current infrastructure needs while planning for future development. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming public meetings to discuss these projects further.
