Montrose City Council Advances Key Infrastructure and Community Initiatives

The Montrose City Council has recently approved several significant projects aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and community services.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements

On March 16, 2026, the city broke ground on critical upgrades to its wastewater treatment plant. Originally commissioned in 1984 and expanded in 2009, the facility is undergoing improvements to address aging infrastructure and to meet anticipated future nutrient limits under Colorado Regulation 85. These enhancements are designed to ensure the plant continues to protect public health and support the community’s growth.

Brown Ranch Subdivision Expansion

In March 2026, the City Council approved an amended preliminary plat for the Brown Ranch Subdivision, located in southeastern Montrose. This amendment includes 120 residential lots within the “R-2” Low Density District, renewing previous preliminary plats and facilitating further development in the area.

Public Safety Equipment Upgrade

The Montrose Police Department is set to enhance its equipment with the purchase of new Taser 10 devices from Axon Enterprises. Approved by the City Council in April 2026, this acquisition aims to provide law enforcement and animal control staff with updated, less-than-lethal tools to ensure public safety.

Community Engagement Initiatives

Unify Montrose, a local organization dedicated to fostering community dialogue, has been actively engaging residents through various programs. These include the Catalyst & Connectors Club, deliberations on local issues, and community dialogues. Their efforts aim to create safe, structured spaces where neighbors can listen, learn, and collaborate, even when they disagree.

These developments reflect Montrose’s commitment to improving infrastructure, expanding housing opportunities, enhancing public safety, and fostering community engagement.
